What is Reiki?
Reiki is a system originally developed for self development and awareness. This was achieved by receiving energy empowerments and following the five precepts laid down by Mikao Usui.
These Reiki Precepts are Mikao Usui's guidelines for living and are perhaps the most important part of his system. They were the baseline, the foundation of his teachings, and it was said that as much spiritual development would come through following the precepts as would come through carrying out any of the energy work.
Being a Reiki practitioner is a bit like being tuned in to a radio. We all have the capability to use Reiki to heal, but somewhere along the line we have lost the knack, we are no longer tuned in. Reiki Masters tune their students back into Reiki energy, teach them how to channel it, and train them in techniques for amplifying its effect.
Reiki is not intended as a cure all. It is a complementary therapy and does not replace conventional medicine. It will help to restore balance and support the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Where does it come from?
It is everywhere. You cannot see it in the same way that you cannot see radio waves, or magnetic fields, but it is there. In acupuncture and Chinese medicine you will sometimes hear it called Chi Anyone who has had a Shiatsu massage, been to a Tai Chi class or practised Qi Gong will be aware of Chi. In India, the same energy is referred to as prana, and breathing exercises and yoga techniques have been developed to bring your energy system into balance.
Is it for me?
Probably! Reiki treats and prevents disease by allowing the flow of energy to all areas where there have been blockages, bringing balance, harmony and strength.
